Hi, water runs down the stays and through the deck to where the fixings are bolted to the bulkhead. Tensioning and releasing causes movement in the bedding sealant which has to be replaced. Last year I cut from an old wetsuit to form a tight waterproof fitting for the base of the stays, with a tiny application of sikaflex above the neoprene. This has kept the boat dry and saved rebedding. When it needs replaced I will cut the next one smaller and neater!

File comment: you can just see a tiny bead of white sealant on the metal. The edges lift up easily and are not fixed to the deck.
